Reflections from the recent Parent Learning Community Workshop

Creativity in action:Listen to the following track whilst reading. It was recorded, edited and published on iPad by grade 4 students.

Creativity in School, creative curriculum, 21st Century Learning. These are phrases that are topics of regular discussion. The important points raised by Sir Ken Robinson in his inspiring TED talk, made back in 2006 were as relevant today as they were 6 years ago.

Followed by hands on ‘maker’ learning engagements gave further opportunity for collaboration, discussion and creative problem solving. The highlight for me being the involvement of grade 6 students in the learning engagement, creating and performing a spontaneous dance. All members of the school community were represented including all schools, leadership, parents and students.

The short slide show features highlights from the workshop.

In summary, participants noted their impressions of ‘where we are now’ and I was particularly struck by how all comments pointed towards the development of the IB Learner Profile- the profile of a whole person as a lifelong learner.

IB learners strive to be inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced & reflective.

The above attributes appear to be mirrored in definitions of creativity both within our school community and the wider world.
